Events
1924: Composer George Gershwin completes "Rhapsody In Blue."

1963: Gary "U.S." Bonds sues Chubby Checker for copyright infringement to the tune of $100,000, claiming that Checker's "Dancing Party" is a thinly veiled rewrite of Bonds' recent hit "Quarter To Three." The suit is eventually settled out-of-court for an undisclosed sum.

1967: Charley Pride becomes the first black solo singer to perform on the Grand Ole Opry, following an introduction from Ernest Tubb.

1970: Max Yasgur, whose farm in upstate New York played host to the original Woodstock Festival, is sued for $35,000 in property damages by neighboring farmers.

1971: Black Sabbath released 'Paranoid' their second studio album in the US. The album features the band's best-known signature songs, including the title track, 'Iron Man' and 'War Pigs'. The album was originally titled War Pigs, but allegedly the record company changed it to Paranoid, fearing backlash from supporters of the ongoing Vietnam War.

1974: Carly Simon and James Taylor become the parents of their second child, Sarah Martin.

1976: Former record exec Kenneth Moss is sentenced to 120 days in the Los Angeles County Jail and four years probation for his role in the accidental overdose death of Average White Band drummer Robbie McIntosh.

1980: Pink Floyd released Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2). The single peaked at No.1 on both the US and UK charts, giving Pink Floyd their first and only #1 hit single.

1999: Rod Stewart and supermodel Rachel Hunter publicly announce the dissolution of their eight-year marriage.

2006: Singer Gary Glitter was formally charged with committing obscene acts with two girls aged 11 and 12 in Vietnam. The prosecutor in the southern province of Ba Ria Vung Tau said the charges would carry prison terms of three to seven years. Glitter, (Paul Gadd), had been held since November as he tried to flee the country over child sex allegations.

2006: Pink married her motocross racer boyfriend Carey Hart on a beach in Costa Rica. Pink proposed to him during one of his races in Mammoth Lakes, California, by holding up a sign that read "Will you marry me?" Hart pulled out of the race to say yes.

2012:  Jay-Z and Beyonce have their first child.  A daughter named Blue Ivy Carter.

2012: Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott marries drummer Chris Tyrell in upstate New York.
