1926: The first edition of the legendary British music magazine Melody
Maker is published, promising news and information for "all who are
interested in the production of popular music."
1941: The Andrews Sisters recorded

1968: John Lennon and Yoko Ono's new experimental album, Two
Virgins, is seized by New Jersey authorities after viewing the front cover,
a non-sexual full-frontal nude shot of the couple. Apple eventually gets around
the problem by issuing the LP in a plain brown wrapper, like pornography.
1969: Filming began at Twickenham
studios in England of The Beatles rehearsing for the 'Let It Be' album. The project
ran into several problems including George Harrison walking out on the group on
January 10th.
1974: US country singer, actor and
radio presenter Tex Ritter died of a heart attack when he was trying to bail a
member of his band from a jail in Nashville.
1976: "Austin City
Limits" premieres on PBS with Willie Nelson as the first featured guest.
The set list includes "Good Hearted Woman," "Whiskey
River," "Okie From Muskogee" and "Will The Circle Be

1979: Sex Pistol's bass player Sid
Vicious went on trial in New York accused of murdering his girlfriend Nancy

1981: American singer David Lynch
of The Platters died of cancer.
1985: Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones marries his second wife, Jo
Karslake, in Buckinghamshire, England, with guests Ringo Starr, Rod Stewart,
Jeff Beck, and the other members of the Stones (except Mick).
1997: Guitarist Randy California
from the rock group Spirit drowned when rescuing his 12-year old son when he
was sucked into a riptide in surf off Hawaii.
1999: Isaac Hayes suddenly finds himself with his first UK hit in
years when the novelty song "Chocolate Salty Balls," done under the
pseudonym Chef, his character on TV's South Park, hits Number One.
2003: Rapper 50 Cent was arrested
by police in New York after guns were found in his vehicle, after his SUV was
searched when it had been left in a no-parking zone. Police found a .25-calibre
handgun and a .45-calibre pistol in the vehicle, officers said both guns were
loaded.
2008: Despite his best attempts to keep the operation a
secret, Paul McCartney is revealed by Billboard magazine to have
undergone a recent coronary angioplasty.
2013: It is
announced the R&B singer Bobby Womack has Alzheimer’s.
