1932: With 6,200 seats and a stage spanning 10,000 square feet, the world's largest indoor theater of the time, Radio City Music Hall, opens in New York City with a massive six-hour show.

1939: CBS Radio presents the first episode of the bi-weekly musical variety program The Glenn Miller Show.

1958: While attending a class at the Liverpool College of Art, John Lennon meets student Cynthia Powell, later to become his first wife.

1964: The Supremes appear on CBS-TV's Ed Sullivan Show for the first time, singing "Come See About Me." They would go on to appear 14 more times on "Sullivan" with Diana Ross, more than any other rock act.

1971: CBS-TV debuts the first fall season of The Sonny and Cher Show.

1975: Queen started a two-week run at No.1 on the Album chart with 'A Night At The Opera' the group's first No.1 album.

1978: Chris Bell (Singer / Songwriter & Guitar for Big Star) died in a car accident at 27 years old.

1985: Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon married model Yasmin Parvanah.

1989: Chuck Berry is sued by the former cook of his restaurant, Southern Air of Wentzville, MO, alleging that the rocker installed hidden video cameras in the ladies restrooms. 200 female, all former patrons of the diner, will eventually sue Berry over the incident.

1992: Harry Connick Jr was arrested at Kennedy Airport, New York after police discovered a 9mm pistol in his hand luggage.

1998: Busta Rhymes (AKA Trevor Smith) was arrested and charged with criminal possession after police found a loaded, unregistered pistol in his car. The police originally pulled Rhymes over for changing lanes three times without signaling.

1999: Sean 'Puff Daddy' Combs and his girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were arrested after a gun was found in their car as they left a Manhattan nightclub. Police were investigating a shooting in the club.

1966: Acting on an earlier order from John Lennon, producer George Martin and engineer Geoff Emerick manage to adjust the tape speeds of two completely different versions of "Strawberry Fields Forever" in order to create the track we know today.

1968: Singer Eric Burdon leaves the Animals for a solo career.

1969: John Lennon and Yoko Ono meet with Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and Minister of Health John Munro to discuss drug abuse.

1975: Ike and Tina Turner's suitcase, containing $86,000 in concert receipts, is stolen.

1976: Singer Isaac Hayes files for bankruptcy.

1978: Faces' drummer Kenney Jones joins the Who, replacing Keith Moon, who had died from an accidental overdose of anti-alcoholic medications two months earlier.

1979: The Concerts For The People Of Kampuchea benefit premieres at London's Hammersmith Odeon, featuring organizer Paul McCartney, the Who, Queen, and an all-star "Rockestra."

1981: A Sotheby's auction in London features an enameled Abbey Road street sign ($600), an autographed program from the Beatles' Royal Command Performance ($2,000), a letter of introduction from Buddy Holly to Decca Records (also $2,000), the marriage certificate of John Lennon and first wife Cynthia ($850), an autographed program from the world premiere of the Beatles' movie Help! ($2,100) and, a jacket once worn by Tom Jones ($12).

1987: Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue was pronounced 'dead on arrival' in an ambulance when his heart stopped beating for two minutes. Sixx was given two shots of adrenaline in his chest to revive him. Fellow band members were prematurely informed of his death.

1988: The Smiths played their farewell gig at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, (without guitarist Johnny Marr). To gain entrance to the gig fans had to wear a Smiths or Morrissey T- shirt.

1991: Gregg Allman makes his acting debut as a drug kingpin in the movie Rush.

1994: Martina McBride delivers her first baby, a 6-pound, 4-ounce girl, Delaney Katharine.

2000: Madonna married film director Guy Ritchie at Skibo Castle, Scotland. Celebrities attending the wedding included Jon Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Sting and fashion designers Donatella Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier and Stellla McCartney. The couple divorced in Nov 2008.

2002: Former Clash singer and guitarist Joe Strummer (John Graham Mellor) died of a suspected heart attack aged 50.

1969: On CBS' Ed Sullivan Show, Diana Ross appears with the Supremes for the last time.

1970: Elvis Presley makes a visit to the White House in order to volunteer his services to President Nixon in fighting the war on drugs. Presley, who loved official badges, had been trying to get a BNDD (Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs) badge for himself, and when calling the Bureau failed, Nixon himself stepped in and ordered his deputy counsel to arrange a meeting. Presley presented the President with a chrome-plated Colt .45 gun, and the next day, Presley received his badge.

1971: Martha and the Vandellas officially disband.

1979: Linda Ronstadt hosts a benefit show for her paramour, Governor of California and Presidential candidate Jerry Brown, at the San Diego Sports Arena. The singer performs, as do Chicago and the Eagles.

1979: Willie Nelson makes his film debut with the opening of "The Electric Horseman", also starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.

1985: Bruce Springsteen's album, ‘Born in the USA’ passed Michael Jackson's ‘Thriller’ to become the second longest-lasting LP on the Billboard US Top 10. It stayed there for 79 weeks. Only ‘The Sound of Music’ with Julie Andrews lasted longer at 109 weeks.

1987: John Spence, singer, original member of No Doubt in the late 80's, committed suicide.

1989: Carlos Santana and wife Debbie become the proud parents of daughter Angelica Faith.

1992: David Crosby was a guest on ABC-TV's "Roseanne."

1996: En route to a White House dinner with the Clintons, Tony Bennett suffers a ruptured hernia and is rushed to the hospital.

2005: Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish became the first gay celebrities to register their relationship as a civil partnership. The 20 minute ceremony took place at The Guild Hall, Windsor, England, guest’s included Ringo Starr, Victoria Beckham, Joss Stone, Sting, Elvis Costello, Jamie Cullum, George Michael and The Osbournes - Ozzy, Sharon, Jack and Kelly.

2006: P Diddy’s girlfriend, Kim Porter gave birth to twin girls, who were named D'Lila Star and Jessie James Combs.

2010: A concert by Kings of Leon was postponed after a fire broke out on two of their tour buses which were parked at The O2 arena in London. The blaze began on one coach before spreading to another tour bus in the loading bay of the venue in Greenwich. About 60 firefighters were at the scene and ambulance crews treated six people for smoke inhalation. An O2 spokesman said the fire meant there was not enough time to rig the arena for the sell-out concert.

1957: Elvis Presley picks up his draft notice.

1967: The band Jethro Tull, named after the 18th-century inventor of the seed drill, is formed.

1967: Folk singer Joan Baez was sentenced to 45 days in prison after being arrested during an anti-war demonstration.

1973: After failing to take medication to protect his heart before a dental visit, Bobby Darin developed an overwhelming systemic infection, otherwise known as sepsis. This weakened his body and badly affected one of his heart valves. On December 11, Darin entered Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for surgery to repair two artificial heart valves he had received in the previous heart operation back in January 1971. On December 19, a five-man surgical team worked for over six hours to repair Darin's damaged heart. Darin died minutes afterward in the recovery room on December 20, 1973, at the age of 37.

1975: Former James Gang guitarist/vocalist and solo artist Joe Walsh joins the Eagles, replacing Bernie Leadon, who left after the band decided to pursue a more "rock" sound.

1980: Motorhead's Drummer Phil Taylor accidentally broke a bone in his neck when partying after a gig in Belfast.

1983: Johnny Cash checks into the Betty Ford Center to prevent an addiction to pain-killers administered during a recent hospital stay. He stays at the center for six weeks and is assigned to kitchen duty for three of them. Elizabeth Taylor is also in treatment.

1994: Beach Boys lead vocalist Mike Love publicly drops his lawsuit against the group. Love had claimed he was due partial royalties on 35 Beach Boys classics; the suit was settled out-of-court.

2001: Tommy Lee branded his ex-wife Pam Anderson an unfit mother. The drummer filed papers with the Los Angeles Superior Court alleging his son's tell him 'We hate Mommy' and his son Brandon had been using the F-word he learned from his mommy.

2006: Eminem and his high school sweetheart divorced for a second time, less than a year after they remarried. The couple agreed to share custody of their 10-year-old daughter, Hailie. The pair told a judge in Michigan they understood this time the divorce was final. The couple remarried in January. But the rapper filed for divorce less than three months later, saying there had been "a breakdown in the marriage relationship".

2009: Carrie Underwood gets engaged to Ottawa hockey player Mike Fisher at his home in Ontario.
